Condition:

The pen is in overall very good condition with no cracks. The chased cap and barrel have some very minor surface scratches and wear. There is some fading to the pen, as noted by the darker thread section. The main barrel imprint, the barrel end model "54" imprint and the barrel end imprint are all clear and readable.  The gold barrel ring has initials on it and some wear, as shown. The pen's cap has holes where there was once a clip, as shown in the photos. The pen has been cleaned, and a new ink sac installed. This lovely vintage Waterman's is ready to write.

The Waterman's 585 (14k gold) nib is a rare stub.  The original catalog description for this style nib called it a blunt read, "An improved stub, slightly oblique.  Makes thick or thin characteristic stub strokes as desired."  The nib is in overall nice condition with clear imprints, ample tipping material and a small amount surface wear, as shown in the photos. The pen has been ink tested, it filled great and the wet nib performed nicely.  A photo of the ink test has been included for reference.
